Route2Write's mission is to inspire and celebrate young writers in Grades 4 to 9. Our free-to-enter writing competition aims to encourage students to explore the advantages of regenerative farming, fostering a deeper understanding of sustainability and environmental responsibility.

To ensure fair consideration for each submission, a submission cap of 200 entries per category will be implemented. Contest not open to residents of the province of Quebec, Canada.

It is a type of farming practice that promotes the protection of soil by moving away from harmful pesticides and fertilizers. This practice nurtures the soils health by ensuring that the health of the soil improves over time. Additionally, this practice helps to avoid farm run off of harmful contaminants into the oceans, destroying coral reefs.

How many times can I submit my essay?

Each participant is limited to one essay submission only. Multiple entries will go unread. Please make sure your essay is final and you are satisfied with it before submitting.

How many winners will there be?

Each grade group will have 3 winners! 

First place will receive $200.
Second place will receive $100.
Third place will receive $50.

This ensures that multiple students have the opportunity to be recognized for their hard work and creativity.

Is there a format that I need to submit in?

Yes! All essays must be submitted following these specific guidelines:
1. File Type:
Submit your essay as a PDF (.pdf) or Word document (.doc). These formats help ensure that your formatting remains consistent.
2. Font Size and Type: Use a 12 point font size to make sure your essay is readable. You can use common fonts like Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri.
3. Margins: Use standard margins (usually 1 inch on all sides) on your document. This is typically the default setting in most word processing programs.
4. Line Spacing: Your essay should be double-spaced. This means there should be space between each line of text, making it easier to read and assess.
5. Formatting Style: Follow MLA (Modern Language Association) formatting guidelines. This includes how you structure your essay, use in-text citations (if you're quoting or referring to someone else's work), and prepare your works cited list. How do I know if my essay was submitted?

Once you click the submit button, you'll see a confirmation message on the website. Additionally, you will receive an email confirmation acknowledging we have received your essay. To ensure a smooth process for all, we kindly ask that you do not contact us to confirm submission beyond this.

Who can enter the competition?

The Route2Write Writing Competition is open to all students living in Canada (except Quebec) who are under the age of 18 and in Grades 4 through 9. We encourage students from all backgrounds and levels of writing experience to participate and share their unique perspectives.

How much does it cost to enter?

Entry into the Route2Write Writing Competition is absolutely free! We believe in encouraging young writers by providing a platform for them to express their ideas without barriers to entry.

Contest Rules and Guidelines:

For the essay to be eligible for consideration, it must meet the following standards: 

  • Each participant is limited to the submission of one essay only. 
  • Essay must be submitted as a .doc or .pdf
  • Essays must be written using standard margins, 12-point font, and double-spaced.
  • Essays submitted by Grade 4/5 students must not exceed a word limit of 750 words.
  • Essays submitted by Grade 6/7 students must not exceed a word limit of 1000 words.
  • Essays submitted by Grade 8/9 students must not exceed a word limit of 1250 words.
  • Essays must be submitted via the designated submission forms on the contest webpage. Paper submissions will not be accepted.
  • Participant must be 18 years of age or younger and residing in Canada. Contest not open to residents of the province of Quebec, Canada. 
  • Participants must submit their own original work. All essays are subject to potential screening through an AI Detector for evaluation.
  • Participants competing in the Grade 6/7 and Grade 8/9 categories are required to include citations using MLA format for all referenced sources in their essays. Failure to provide proper citations may result in disqualification from the competition.
  • While not mandatory, participants in the Grade 4/5 category are strongly encouraged to include citations for any sources referenced in their essays.
